Two Access apprentices employed by Van Hee Transport are embarking on Degree courses thanks to the qualifications gained during their apprenticeship programmes.
Twenty year old Craig Taylor from Hebburn has begun a Foundation Degree Course at Sunderland University after completing an apprenticeship and advanced apprenticeship in Business Administration with Access. The UCAS points Craig gained from his Advanced Apprenticeship were just what he needed to qualify him for the degree course he wanted.
An added bonus was the offer from Van Hee to continue working for them on a part-time basis while he attends university and Craig now works 22.5 hours a week.
Nineteen year Sophia Grainger had originally been unsuccessful in her application for a place on a Foundation Degree in Business Management as she didn't have the required maths qualifications. However once she achieved her Level 2 Key Skill in Application of Number as part of her Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration that all changed and she is now studying at Northumbria University.
Both Craig and Sophia were supported through their apprenticeship and advanced apprenticeship programmes by Access Skills Adviser Lorraine Robinson who is delighted with their achievements and progress.
" both Craig and Sophia applied themselves to their apprenticeship studies and I am sure they will continue to do well in their chosen degrees. They have benefited from being with a supportive employer who has given them every opportunity to progress in their roles which in turn has enabled them to gain the qualifications needed to access Higher Education."
Van Hee's Training and contracts Manager Elaine Allan is also pleased with the pair's progress and commented ,"all of the admin staff recruited by Access are doing well. They have worked independently to contribute to the efficient operation of the office and as a training organisation ourselves we are delighted to see Craig and Sophia embark on their university careers".
